Goodbye Rainy Season - enjoy the summer

Finally it seems that the rainy season is over, and we are blessed again with blue skies.  Unfortunately the price we pay in Tokyo is the humidity, stickiness and heat that comes with the sunshine.

Relief can be had easily - its the best time to head out into the countryside on the weekends and enjoy a cooler and more relaxing time.

Great activities and Ideas for your stay at Inaka Home:

  • Vegetables: Visit one of the many local farmer's stalls, and buy vegetables that were harvested the very morning.  Potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and lettuce as fresh, juicy and tasty as you didn't have for a very long time.  Convert them into snappy and cooling salads.
  • Friends: Invite a few friends round to enjoy the weekend together.  Load up on beer, wine and water melon, and catch up with each other's lifes
  • Waterfall: Head out to the waterfall, and enjoy the cooling minus ions released by the droplets of water into the air.  Jump in to get refreshed, or just be soothed by the pleasant sound.
  • Harvest: Take your kids to harvest fruits (and eat their share while doing it), or participate in many of the other Nagawamachi eco-activities on offer
  • Bar-B-Q: Have a barbecue in the garden, and enjoy outdoor meals.
  • Relax: Open the windows and make yourself comfortable on the wooden boards of our house with a book.  Listen to the music of cicadas and birds.
  • Washi-making: Make your own Japanese paper fan, or postcard in the nearby Washi Centre
  • Soba: Eat local freshly prepared Soba, Yakiniku of local beef or feast on the various old fashioned pickles
  • Fishing: Spend a day at the river fishing for Ayu and small Yamame
  • Highland: Head up the Mountain and enjoy the splendid Utsukushi-no-hara highland, with hiking, a dairy farm, and an art museum to enjoy.
